#33: An Unbelievable Day at Cruden Bay!
How lucky was I to get to play Cruden Bay Golf Club on such a spectacular day?! I had played before many years ago, but the course was even more spectacular than I remembered.
When we arrived, the weather was no where near as nice. Storm clouds were threatening and I was unsure if we were going to make it through the round without getting wet. I put on an extra jumper and braced myself against the wind. But how wrong was i?!

#32: An Amazing Day at Royal Aberdeen!
It was an unexpected treat to be invited to play at Royal Aberdeen Golf Club - and one that I could not refuse. I have visited Royal Aberdeen many times, but normally the rain is not far off and the clouds are gathering. Today was just the most amazing day: a perfect autumnal morning clear, crisp, and sunny with a fresh breeze blowing in off the North Sea. The view from the first tee at Royal Aberdeen Golf Club, as you can see, is breathtaking.
#27: Forbes of Kingennie: sunshine, golf and more!
We had an appointment in Dundee early Friday morning, so we packed our golf clubs and off we went, as ‘Ladies of the Links’ do!! Once again, Hank begged to come ....
It was hard to way goodbye with him calling, ‘Come back! Don’t leave me!!’ from the top of the stairs. But it was a beautiful day and we had a meeting, so off we went.
After a busy morning in Dundee, we were finally able to head off to ou[..]
26: King James VI Golf Club - Hidden in the Heart of Perth
This brilliant golf course is well hidden, but worth all the effort to get there! The SatNav took me to the industrial end of town. I guess it was expecting me to swim the rest of the way to the course across the River Tay. Thanks Siri! So once I was done giving Siri a tongue lashing, it took me to the South Inch car park in town. There some friendly Perth Council Workers helped me out and showed me the way to get to the course,[..]
#25: Killin Golf Club: Unexpectingly brilliant in picturesque Perthshire!
It’s golf season again in Scotland!
It’s been an incredibly wet and mild winter in this part of the world. And just when the weather seemed to be turning, another storm rolled through bringing rain or snow or both. So not much golf has been able to be played since November. I was hoping to get a few more rounds in by now, but events have been working against me. I am determined to complete this ch[..]
#24: Golspie Golf Club: Great Golf and More!
Golspie Golf Club is 126 years old this year, and I have been meaning to play it for the last 15 years - virtually ever since I joined Brora. As both clubs are here in the Highlands and designed by James Braid, it’s a wonder I hadn't done so before now. But finally I found myself here on this great October morning. In Golspie's Pro Shop I was given a cheery welcome and had a good chat before heading off to enjoy the golf.
#23: Bonar Bridge Golf Club - A Special Highland Golf Secret!
Tucked away on the hill above its quaint town of the same name, is the Bonar Bridge Golf Club. Before the bridge was constructed over the Dornoch Firth, the only way to get to Dornoch and up the coast was via Bonar Bridge. But despite that increased traffic, Bonar Bridge always remained true to its unpretentious Highland Nature. The golf course is no different. It is unassuming and straightforward in its clubhouse and greeti[..]
#22: Auchterader Golf Club: On the Hill
We played Auchterader on a glorious October afternoon. Seventeen years ago, on the eve of our wedding day, the weather was so terrible that our golf competition was totally washed out! What an amazing difference this year was from that day.... This 'Lady of the Links' must have good weather karma!
Here is the view from the clubhouse at Auchterader,
As you can see, it has a beautiful view over the hills.
I have to be honest: I pla[..]
#21: The Boat of Garten: True Highland Golf!
We have some friends visiting from Taos, New Mexico. They are staying in St. Andrews, but with one of them wanting to get on The Old Course, the others had a free day. When asked what they wanted to do, they said unanimously, "See the Highlands!" So I roped them into a round of golf in exchange for driving.... It was definitely not a hardship for me!
Here are Mary and Phyllis on our journey:
It's official, they are in the Highlands,[..]
#20: Lochmaben Golf Club: Gracie, Maisy and their Grandfather, All Smiles and Pure Delight!
Lochmaben Golf Club is pure delight! From the moment one steps out of the car, you know this is someplace special.
Possibly it’s the friendly, but dry welcome you get from the man behind the bar, cheerfully going about his work as he jokingly asks, ‘You going to play alone!?’ Or possibly it’s the beautiful light that effuses from Kirk Loch throughout this amazing, pr[..]
