Beth's 50 At 50 Challenge

I feel extremely lucky to have played most of my golf at Brora Golf Club in the Highlands. My own golf has not always been pretty, especially when I first started. I can remember plodding its wonderful fairways singing, ‘The good shots have all gone...why have all the good shots gone? Oh where, oh where have all the good shots gone?!’ But it was in those moments that I came to appreciate the magic and the genius of James Braid and his golf course design. I have been stunned to learn how many courses actually bear his name throughout the UK. And although I am a confirmed ‘Lady of the links’ and will always prefer links golf, my interest has been piqued to play some of the inland courses which Braid designed. So with the idea of playing Scotland’s ‘hidden gems’ courses and a desire to play other James Braid courses, the idea of this birthday quest was born.

The Itinerary is the outline plan and I hope to play the courses listed throughout the upcoming golf season. As much as the thought of being away for two months just playing golf in Scotland appeals to me, it is completely unrealistic. In the Spring, I will finalise actual dates and tee times once business and family commitments become settled. And if you can join me at any of the courses along the way, please do! I am looking forward to the challenge, the weather and the fun that awaits.

Again, is there any better gift to give a lady? Some might argue differently, but this ‘Lady of the Links’ doesn’t think so. More golf is all she needs!
